Harrisville is a New England town located in Cheshire County, in the Monadnock Region of southern New Hampshire.  It includes the village of Chesham.  Harrisville is comprised of 18.7 square miles of land and 1.5 square miles of water. The town’s highest point is the summit of Cobb Hill. Approximately half the town, on the west side, is in the Ashuelot River watershed.  The other half of the town, on the east side, lies within the Merrimack River watershed.

Harrisville is a well-preserved 19th century New England town.  It was first settled in 1760, and the township was formed in 1870 from land acquired from Dublin, Nelson, Hancock, Roxbury and Marlborough.  Many of the buildings in Harrisville look as they did in the 1800’s, and the red brick buildings and mills are a perfect example of old New England.  The Harrisville Historic District in Harrisville is a National Historic Landmark.

The town contains nine bodies of water, and two train depots at Harrisville and Chesham.  According to the 2000 U. S. Census Bureau, the town’s population at the time was 1,075 people.  This includes 449 households, 306 families and 698 housing units.
