Jaffrey is located in Cheshire County, at the base of the Mount Monadnock in southwest New Hampshire.  It is bordered on the north by Dublin, on the east by Peterborough and Sharon in Hillsborough County, on the south by Rindge and on the west by Marlborough.  On the north end of Jaffrey is Thorndike Pond and on the southern end is Contoocook Lake.

Jaffrey is known for being a vacation destination, and the town’s scenic beauty has attracted summer tourists since the 1840’s.  The town is home to many hotels, whose location a the base of the grand Monadnock Mountain appeals to tourists and hikers..  Jaffrey boasts three lakes, village greens and rolling countryside.

Jaffrey is home to many historically interesting sites.  They include Melville Academy, a WWI War Memorial, Soldier’s Rock, the Meeting House, the Amos Fortune Grave Site, the Hannah Davis Grave Site, the Will Cather Grave Site and the Baker House.  Jaffrey is also home to many examples of fine antique architecture, including the Town Meetinghouse which was built in 1775.

Jaffrey is comprised of 38.3 square miles of land, and 1.7 square miles of water.  According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Jaffrey’s population at the time was 5,476 people.  This included 2,120 households and 1,464 families.
